Sexual health

The government's Sexual Health and HIV strategy (external website) is the first national strategy for sexual health and HIV. It is a strategy that will modernise and improve sexual health and HIV services in the country. A local strategy is currently being developed.

The Coventry Healthy Schools Programme provides support for schools in a range of health related matters, including Sex and Relationship Education (SRE), and gives guidance about policies for Primary and Secondary Schools. Guidance is also available in policy and procedures about SRE for looked after children. A DVD has been produced for carers to use with young people. Copies are available from the Project Manager-Quality Care for Looked After Children on tel. 024 7683 2635.

SHADOW (Sexual Health and Drugs Outreach Workers) is a partnership between Coventry Teaching Primary Care Trust and Coventry City Council. SHADOW provides education and prevention programmes that enable young people to make informed choices and decisions about sexual health, drugs, smoking and healthy lifestyles. The team works in a range of settings including schools and youth clubs.

The Coventry Teaching Primary Care Trust website gives more information about sexual health issues including local services, support and other contacts.
