Self-harming / injury

 

Different organisations have different routes for workers and carers to raise and report concerns about children and young people that self harm.

School Nurses can provide initial advice and refer pupils to specialist support.

The Coventry Teaching Primary Care Trust has a specialist service called the Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service has specialist support officers who can give confidential advice to all practitioners working with young people under 18 in Coventry area about self harm/injury issues and eating disorders.

The Learning and Behaviour Support Service (external website) is a team of specialist teachers who provide support to Primary and Secondary schools for pupils who are experiencing difficulties. They also provide guidance, advice and awareness training for teachers and other staff on issues such as self harming behaviours.  

The Vibes project (external website) is part of Coventry Mind and provides specialist mental health information, education and support services for children and young people.

Guidance is also available about self harming issues in policy and procedures for looked after children.
